In the final days of the Ilias Shahi Dynasty, a young man of Arab descent made his way to Bengal. Soon he found employment in the Sultan’s army, married a Bengali woman, and settled down to delta life. But in a matter of years he would embark on a career that would end in making him the most beloved Sultans of Bengal.
